Many calculators on this site implement ACR/EULAR and other society classification criteria. These criteria were designed and validated for the purpose of classifying patients for clinical research studies, to ensure homogeneous, well-defined patient populations. They were not designed as diagnostic criteria and a patient meeting these criteria is not necessarily diagnosed with the corresponding condition. Conversely, a patient who does not meet these criteria may still carry a clinical diagnosis.
Other tools implement disease activity, damage, severity, or response measures, such as the DAS28, SLEDAI-2K, SCTC-DI, CLASI, and the thyroid eye disease Clinical Activity Score. These were developed for research and for monitoring patients over time. Their severity bands and response thresholds can differ between published sources, and each calculator page lists its sources and known limitations. They do not diagnose disease or determine treatment.
The output of any calculator on this site requires interpretation by a qualified clinician in the context of the full clinical picture.
