Content Creation

How calculators are built

All content on AutoimmuneCalc is created by Mahiar Rabie, MS, MD. There are no guest contributors, sponsored articles, or AI-generated content published without physician review and verification.

Calculators

Each calculator is built from the primary publication of its criteria or instrument. The process is:

Principle: No editorial modification of criteria

Criteria thresholds, item weights, and scoring logic are taken directly from the published source. AutoimmuneCalc does not simplify or adapt published criteria. If a criterion is ambiguous or silent in the source paper, any interpretation we had to make is stated on the calculator page under limitations, so the assumption is visible. Where a severity band or response threshold comes from a later study rather than the original paper, that study is cited on the page.

Guides and Articles

AutoimmuneCalc currently publishes calculators only. If guides or articles are added, each will carry the author's name and a references section.

Sourcing Standards

How references are used

AutoimmuneCalc uses primary sources wherever possible. The evidence hierarchy applied is:

Secondary sources such as UpToDate, textbooks, or educational summaries are not used as the primary evidence base for calculator logic. They may be referenced in patient-facing guides for accessibility, but the underlying criteria are always traced to the primary publication.

A full index of source papers for the calculators on this site is available on the References page.

Content Updates

When and why content is updated

Content is reviewed and updated in the following circumstances:

New criteria published

When ACR or EULAR publishes revised or replacement classification criteria, the affected calculator is updated to reflect the new version. The prior version is noted if clinically relevant (e.g., the 2010 ACR RA criteria remain in use alongside the earlier 1987 criteria for specific contexts).

Correction of errors

If a scoring error, incorrect threshold, or factual inaccuracy is identified in any tool or article - by the author, a user, or a clinical expert - it is corrected promptly. Significant corrections are noted on the affected page with a date.

Guideline updates

When major clinical practice guidelines are updated (ACR, EULAR, BSR), relevant calculators are reviewed and updated to reflect current recommendations.

Most calculator pages name the reviewer, Mahiar Rabie, MS, MD. Pages built or revised from October 2026 onward also show a last-reviewed date at the top. If currency is important to your use case, please contact us to confirm the source paper date.

Audience

Who the tools are for

AutoimmuneCalc is built for clinicians. Calculators require knowledge of clinical findings, laboratory results, and imaging, the kind of information a physician has at the point of care. Patient use is not discouraged, but the output of a calculator requires clinical interpretation to be meaningful.

Principle: No tool on this site provides a diagnosis

Classification is not diagnosis. The EULAR/ACR classification criteria were designed to define homogeneous patient populations for research, not to function as clinical diagnostic criteria. All calculator output is labeled accordingly and includes a clinical disclaimer.
